3rd Place – Ross Mackay – Leven Programme | Poem | “This is a Place”

This Is a Place by Ross Mackay
This is a place where memories live.
In the green and the hollows, and the early morning frost.
This is a place of change. As seasons tumble over one another with
wet summers and wide-eyed winter suns.
This is a place of stillness, away from the churn of time.
This is place where thoughts can be turned with a stick, twisted and
spun and looked
at anew.
This is a place where decisions come from the gut.
This is a place where leaves sit soft, sinking into mud, crumbling to
dust to become
tree once more.
This is a place to think of ancestors. This is a place where new life
takes root.
This is a place where you can frolic and play and slay the day away.
This is a place for imaginations, to run down rabbit holes and fly
through the wind.
This is a place to live outdoors in the breath of the wild.
This is a place for soil in the fingernails and nature in the nostrils.
This is a place where wildlife and man, sit as one. This is a place of
equilibrium.
This is a place where pigeons are dirty winged angels and heaven is
moss on a tree
stump.
This is a place for footsteps and muddy puddles.
This is a place for you.
This is a place for us.
This is a place for leven.
