Great Botanic Garden Bird Watch

Great Botanic Garden Bird Watch

Event Information

Big Garden Birdwatch is the UK’s largest garden wildlife survey. It’s been running since 1979, and every year, around 700,000 people take part. It takes place over the last weekend in January each year. In 2024, Big Garden Birdwatch will be back on 26th to 28th January. RSPB are hoping it’ll be the biggest Birdwatch yet.

This year Climate Action Fife and St Andrews Botanic Garden are running a special event on Saturday 27th January. People and families of all ages across Fife are invited to St Andrews Botanic Garden for a short introduction on local birdlife and the importance of these surveys. Valuable survey data will be collected as you observe and identify the birds as you walk around the beautiful grounds.

No booking is required. Event is free. There is an admission charge for the Botanic Garden.

Accessibility

There is a wheelchair accessible loop around the garden, marked in pink on visitor maps. Most of the surfaces are flat, with a combination of path surfaces including metalled paths and grass.  There are plenty of benches and shelters located around the garden to stop off at and take a rest.  Some areas of the Garden, down to the pond, are steep and there are some steps around the garden. There is a ramp into the visitor centre and gift shop and they have an accessible toilet located at the entrance to the garden, as part of the visitor centre.

A disabled parking space is located in the car park, next to the entrance.
