Three ways we can help businesses in Fife to save energy and carbon this winter

An autumnal snap of cold can be felt in the air and winter is quickly approaching. With rising energy costs, and net-zero targets to reach, the shift in seasons is a very worrying time for many businesses, particularly as they are just starting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

While many residents are delaying turning their heating on this is something that many businesses, especially the hospitality sector, cannot afford to scrimp on.

Unfortunately advice on energy use for businesses is scant and complicated. Many people are unsure of how to get a good deal, that’s why to start with we recommend two energy comparison sites for businesses to make sure they are getting the best rates available, Citrus Energy and Utility Aid.

Secondly, we can offer businesses free comprehensive energy audits on their property which also includes rental properties. This will detail short, medium and long term changes that can make your business more energy savvy, and cut your bills and carbon.

Finally, we are helping businesses access Fife Council’s Digital Improvements and Energy Efficiency Grant. This cash-back grant offers businesses up to £5000 to become more energy efficient. This can include changes such as help towards a new boiler, LED lights, double glazing, refrigeration or any alterations to reduce their energy and carbon use. Funding must be claimed by 31 March 2023 so we’d advise businesses to act quickly.
